Embryo Labeling

A universal embryo labeling protocol is needed to decrease the risk of lab errors such as inadvertent warming or transfer of an unintended embryo. Currently each clinic determines the labeling protocol they use which makes it difficult to understand the origins of an embryo based on the labeling. This is especially true when embryos are transferred from one clinic to another. Universal labeling protocols for oocytes and sperm specimens are also needed.

Until universal embryo labeling protocols can be put in place, embryo labeling schematics should be sent with embryos anytime embryos are transferred from one clinic to another.
